Zakynthos is the most southernly of the Ionian Islands, lying just ten miles off the coast of the Peloponnese. The Venetians loved the island for its charm and natural beauty. Zante - ‘fiore di levante’ (flower of the east) as they once called it; they built a splendid city on its semi - circular bay, which unfortunately was raised to the ground in the 1953 earthquake. What remains are the castle walls, worth a walk for the views of the west coast of the Peloponnese and the church of St.Dionysios, the islands patron saint. A five minute walk south of the main square, is a beautiful church with its Venetian bell tower, stained glass windows and ceiling covered in paintings. A high level of culture has survived in its museums, music societies and beautiful restored historic monuments. The disaster did nothing to diminish the charm of the landscape, mountainside and hills covered in fresh smelling herbs, valleys planted with vineyards, wizened olive trees and almond groves. In early spring the fields are vibrant with wild flowers, poppies, daisies and anemones. Its white sandy beaches are framed by a turquoise sea. Zakynthos is a joy to the senses, where the sound of the ebb and flow of the crystal clear water soothes all cares away.

Alykanas is split into the old and new section. Our properties are on the older, more relaxed, quieter village with its crystal water and glorious sandy beach which shelves very gently, making it ideal for children. The village has a tiny center, a small supermarket run by Denis and his family, The Shoestring Taverna on the beach and a Fish Taverna also close by. For a wider variety of tavernas, bars and restaurants  a short stroll (15 mins or so) will bring you to the “newer” Alykanas. It’s ideal to explore the sandy beach and countryside by bicycle. Life here is quiet and unhurried and will soothe away the stress of day - to - day living. A great spot to relax, take a midday dip, and enjoy the rays.

Vassilikos is a s beautiful peninsula, located just south east of Zakynthos Town is reached by a winding and very scenic drive. With its stunning, sandy beaches, turquoise sea and pine clad hills this is one of the most ‘picture perfect’ regions of the island. The numerous, sandy beaches of Vassilikos consist of Ionian, Gerakas, Porto Roma, Porto Zoro, Banana and Agios Nikolaos; all have their own charm and beauty.
